Franchising

Thank you for your interest in opening a Bread Poets. Whether you want to “roll” in the dough or just make lots of bread – Bread Poets offers a turn-key system for you to realize the American dream.

Bread Poets provides a unique opportunity to make an incredible tangible product and immediately see the fruits of your labor. Sure it’s hard work but having been in this business for almost 15 years, we can honestly say that it is extremely gratifying!

We take the franchising end of our business very seriously and are committed to giving our franchisees all the tools necessary to succeed. However, with any business venture, the recipe for success falls squarely on the shoulders of the individuals running each location. There’s an old adage in the franchise business: “You’re in business for yourself but not by yourself”. Therein lies the strength of a franchise system. We’ve been through many hardships, constantly refined our systems and recipes, and basically know this business inside and out. You not only invest in the name Bread Poets and our products, but you benefit from the lessons we’ve already learned – giving you the advantage to hit the ground running with a tried and true system that works and a product that will simply amaze your customers!

We hope you’ve had the chance to visit Bread Poets – soaking in the atmosphere of busy bakers hoppin’ around the bakery to an upbeat melody as the fresh bread is being pulled from the oven. The sight, the sound, the smell and the taste leave an indelible impression on all who walk through our doors. The products are unique only to us and the chatter at the bread board affirms that there is nothing quite like Bread Poets bread.

If you should be among the chosen to open a Bread Poets you will spend time in our Bismarck location learning how to run a bakery – from doing the doughs, to baking, to customer service up at the counter. We will cover it all. There will also be office training that covers bookkeeping, recordkeeping, ordering and staffing.

What are we looking for in a good candidate?

To be a successful owner you must be proficient at the managerial duties (white collar) but not be afraid to roll up your sleeves and put in a hard days work (blue collar). Quite frankly, it’s not for everyone but if you are a multi-tasker and don’t mind getting a little flour on your apron, it may be the opportunity you’ve always dreamed about. You absolutely must be able to handle the physical demands of being on your feet all day, lifting 50-pound sacks of flour, heaving dough onto the forming table, cleaning the dishes, scrubbing the floor and still smile like it’s your wedding day!

Demographics

The demographic area you choose for a location should be city of at least 50,000 people within a 5-mile radius. Your customers will be middle to upper income families with enough expendable income to seek out and pay for the quality products you make. For the actual building specifications, we recommend between 1800 and 2400 square feet to accommodate the small office, storage, production and customer areas.

Initial Investment

We project the initial investment for a Bread Poets to be between $166,000 and $259,000. This figure could come in slightly lower or significantly higher depending on a number of variables such as the mix of used and new equipment, leasehold improvements and the amount of work you do yourself on getting the bakery open.

Franchise Fees and Royalties

After you have been selected and we receive the first franchise fee installment ($18K) we provide assistance in site selection, store layout, equipment and inventory requirements. Our ongoing royalty fee is 3% of gross sales. You are loaned a comprehensive and confidential Operations Manual. You will be required to attend a week of training at our Bismarck bakery and we will send out a trainer to be on site at your location one day before opening and through the opening week.

Unfortunately, we cannot make predictions or guarantees as to your level of success as a Bread Poets franchisee. In short, we cannot tell you how much money you will make the first year, second year or any other year. The variables in any small business are dynamic and ever changing. However, if you have the passion and determination to make a go of a small business we can give you the proven tools to have every chance at success owning your own Bread Poets.
